About
Established with a profound love for the island, ‘Iwa Maui is more than a tree trimming, tree removal, and land clearing company.
Kula resident Tony Barwick started ‘Iwa Maui in the aftermath of the August 2023 fires. After witnessing the destruction that the fires caused to his neighbors’ homes and lives, he made the decision to do something that would help prevent that kind of devastation from ever happening again. By December that year, he quit his day job and bought a dump truck & wood chipper.
Today, ‘Iwa Maui’s vision is not only to lead the way in reliable tree trimming & removals, land clearing, and green waste hauling — but to ensure that Maui’s environment & communities are taken care of for generations to come. Through partnership with Malama Kula, Tony spends time each week clearing & regenerating land in Kula that has been affected by wildfires.
When you hire ‘Iwa Maui for your next tree or land job, you can trust that you will be working with a company that operates out of a love for Maui & its residents. We are a highly-responsive team of outdoor professionals that value excellence, integrity, and people in all we do.
Our core values are all about lending a helping hand.
1. Excellence
We strive for excellence in our communication with clients, our team’s work culture, and a job well-done. By the end of your project, you should be really happy that you hired us and feel like your property was truly cared for by our team. As the tree saying goes — every cut counts.
2. Integrity
In a day and age that’s increasingly non-committal and flaky, we simply do what we say we’re going to do. From answering the phone and responding to messages to sending quotes and showing up on time on project day, our top priority is building and maintaining trustworthy relationships with our clients.
3. People
From our team to our clients and everyone in between, people matter. We aim to be a company that you can count on in times of need, crisis, and disaster. At ‘Iwa Maui, we want to be known as a helpful, homegrown company — built and run by real people living in local communities.

Greetings from Kula, Maui! I’m Tony Barwick — the founder of 'Iwa Maui, husband, father, and man with a journey as diverse & vibrant as the landscapes ‘Iwa Maui strives to preserve. Hailing from the breathtaking shores of Cape Town, South Africa, my passion for nature & community has led me on a remarkable path.
In my early 20’s — a previous life beneath the waves — I navigated the ocean’s depths as a commercial diamond diver, embracing the challenge & solitude offered by South Africa’s west coast. This unique experience cultivated in me a deep appreciation for the connection between humans & the natural world.
With a deep love for my home country, I eventually became a certified tour guide. I shared the wonders of South Africa with its visitors and developed a desire to travel along the way. It was during these journeys that I truly discovered my passion for working with people.
A few years later in 2014, my wife & I co-founded a non-profit called Yebo Life that supported ministry leaders in at-risk communities across Cape Town. Yebo Life instilled in me the importance of giving back & creating positive change in my community. This value continues to fuel my desire to be apart of something greater than myself.
After immigrating to the United States, I worked in tech sales & real estate investing — both of which taught me important lessons in strategic thinking, honest business, and working hard. Recognizing the need for responsible tree & land care on Maui, I created 'Iwa Maui to help contribute to the well-being of this beautiful island.
I envision a place where humans & nature can seamlessly co-exist. Through ‘Iwa Maui’s services, we not only care for the land but also perpetuate a narrative of environmental sustainability. Join us on this eco-adventure as we transform outdoor spaces — one green step at a time.
